The 2013 NBA Draft is less than 24 hours away and it is crunch time for teams around the league. The Sixers possess the 11th pick in the draft and are hoping to draft a prospect with long term advantages.
The Sixers are hoping to revitalize their roster and draft a prospect to assist in the rebuilding process and look toward a bright future after a disappointing season.
Many analysts are expecting the Sixers to select a big man. Their front court was their greatest weakness. This year’s draft class boasts a myriad of talented big men, such as Alex Len, Kelly Olynik, and Cody Zeller.
Most mock drafts have the Sixers drafting Cody Zeller of Indiana. If he is still on the board, his scoring and productivity make him a fine selection for the Sixers at the 11th spot. Although he’s proven he can score in college, many people fear his game won’t transfer to the NBA, for he lacks the toughness required.
The Sixers are also looking for a scorer to come off the bench, a role Lou Williams used to possess. An intriguing option is CJ McCollum, who played locally at Lehigh. He only played 12 games due to injury, but he shot nearly 52 percent from three point range and would provide an instant scoring option off of the bench.
There is also the option of trading down the draft. Outside of a few players, the talent this year is not overwhelming. Trading down is a viable option for Philly, and if they do that, they can still select one or more quality role player(s). Sam Hinkie is known for valuing a a good second-round pick and he can groom a prospect into a productive role player or starter a few years down the line.
